NovaSure
The new rapid treatment for heavy menstrual bleeding
I am now happy to offer NovaSure as a brand new and therapeutic treatment for heavy menstrual bleeding. This procedure has been available in the USA since 2001, and was launched in 2005 in the United Kingdom. This is a third generation endometrial ablation treatment, with outstanding clinical trials. There is a 97% reduction in heavy periods, and 75% do not have any periods at all after 5 years following treatment.
This treatment is ideal for women who have not responded to any medical (pill or Mirena coil) treatment and is best in women who have completed their family. Treatment Plan
- A consultation and an assessment with either ultrasound or outpatient hysteroscopy (examination of the uterus).
- The client is then offered a convenient date for the procedure, and there is no need for medical preparation.
- The procedure can be carried out under general anaesthetic or sedation.
- Clients will only need to be in hospital for 2-3 hours.
Under general or local anesthesia, Mr Morris will initially carry out an assessment of your uterus (hysteroscopy). Mr Morris will then place a slender wand through the cervix into the uterus. This wand contains the electrode which will carry out the treatment. This array then fans out to fit comfortably into the shape of the uterus.
The NovaSure system performs a check to ensure that the procedure can safely be carried out. Carbon dioxide, an inert gas is used to inflate the cavity during this check.
The device is activated, and turns off automatically when the treatment is complete. Usually this takes about 90 seconds.
After the treatment is complete, the electrode safely pulls back into the wand for easy removal.
