Mr Nicholas Morris is a Medico-Legal Expert
As a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, I have been involved in providing expert reports or assessing clinical risk for over 15 years, I attend the Medico-Legal Society meetings and AVMA conferences and write legal reports, as well as giving evidence and also working as a single joint expert. I am the Chair of the Independent Doctors’ Federation Medico-Legal Committee.
I was responsible for the re-writing of the Female Genital Mutilation Act in 2003, and recently published an article about Female Genital Mutilation in the Medico-Legal Journal, Clinical Risk.
I am a member of the Expert Witness Institute. I am on the MPS Panel for the UK and Ireland, and have acted as an Expert Witness for West London and Southwark Doncaster and Maidstone and for Maidstone Coroner’s Court. I have prepared reports for both civil and more recently, child protection, the court of protection and criminal trials.
My reports are about two-thirds Claimant and one-third Defence. My areas of expertise include specialist Obstetrics and Gynaecology, which is related to my medical practice. I am a nationally recognised expert on hypertension in pregnancy (see publication list) and on female genital mutilation. I was the defence expert in the recent Bristol FGM trial in February 2018. In 2023, I was the CPS expert in a recent FGM case at the Old Bailey, resulting in a criminal conviction.
